Details of Prizes to Win

There are three prizes available to be won as follows.

First Prize

The First Prize consist of $5,000.00 in cash (approximate retail value: $5,000.00) and the First Prize winner’s choice of either Option One or Option Two as detailed below.

Option One

The tuition fee for the Humber School for Writers: Creative Writing Graduate Certificate Program. Two consecutive semesters, September start. Eligibility requirements. Creative Writing Graduate Certificate open to domestic students only. (Approximate retail value of Option One: $3,695.00).

OR

Option Two

The tuition fee for the Summer Workshop in Creative Writing Program at The Humber School for Writers, to take place in mid-July (Approximate retail value of Option Two: $1,550.00).

Second Prize

The Second Prize is $2,000.00 in cash (approximate retail value of the prize: $2,000.00).

Third Prize

The Third Prize is $1,000.00 in cash (approximate retail value of the prize: $1,000.00).

How to Enter

During the Contest Period go to thestar.com/shortstory and complete the online entry form, and follow the instructions to upload your short story.

Short Story Criteria. Stories must be written in English. Stories must be written on a computer or typewriter, be double-spaced, and no longer than 2,500 words. Total word count must be printed on the front page of the story, or listed in the appropriate field/section of the online submission form. The name of the entrant must not appear in the story. Pseudonyms are not permitted.

Manuscripts will not be returned. Do not send photographs with entries.

Contest end date

The Contest ends at 5:00 p.m. ET, on February 28.

Eligibility

The Toronto Star Short Story Contest is open to all residents of Ontario who have attained the age of 16.
